Wrap-Ups

Top Books of 2016

Hey loves! Here we are on New Year’s Eve and I am  seriously behind on my posts! I had planned to get all of my wrap up/end of the year/ beginning of the year posts done throughout this week…obviously that didn’t happen. None the less I will start right now with my Top Books of 2016 post. I read a total of 92 books this years, which I feel is an accomplishment for myself! Now lets take a look at my favorite books that I have read this year. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they were published this year, ( although I think every one was), simply that I finally got around to picking them up this year!

Alright here we go…

(also these aren’t in any particular order for me…they are all earned their 5 star ratings!)

They call me a slut. Maybe I am.
Sometimes I do things I despise.
Sometimes men take without asking.

But I have a musical gift, only a year left of high school, and a plan.
With one obstacle.

Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.
He seizes my will power and bangs it like a dark note.
When he commands me to play, I want to give him everything.
I kneel for his punishments, tremble for his touch, and risk it all for our stolen moments.

He’s my obsession, my master, my music.
And my teacher.

It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.

Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.

It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.

But we can’t start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

16102004

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.
Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He’s exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family’s massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting he’s willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they’re willing to lose in order to win each other.

31549928Joel Anderson doesn’t take anything seriously.

Not his relationships, which have been few and far between since his brutal divorce. Not the drama of working in a tattoo parlor, which seems to be around every corner. When things get him down, he smiles and cracks a joke. But he’s not the kind of man you cross, or you’ll find yourself at the wrong end of his fists.

Annika Belousov takes everything seriously.

Like her job as a reality television producer, given that she typically has something to prove. Or her love life, which is defined by a series of requirements — affluent, ambitious, accomplished, to name a few. Definitely her family, who worked their whole lives to afford her every opportunity, a sacrifice she doesn’t take lightly. When she’s tapped to produce a reality show at Joel’s shop, she doesn’t think twice, just goes in for the kill, as if there were any other way.

The second Annika walks into Joel’s shop, he makes it his mission to crack her open, but she’s not having it. He’s all wrong — too crass, too hairy, too un-serious. But it doesn’t take her long to find out there’s more to him than smirks and tattoos. And what she finds could put her career and his heart on the line.

Not that Joel cares. Because for the first time in a long time, he’s found his tonic.

32148398Victoria Woodley is done with men. Fresh off a dating nightmare, she flies from her home in Chicago to Scarlet Springs to take part in her best friend’s wedding. Who picks her up at the airport? Eric Hawke. Of course. She made a fool of herself over him last time she was here. He’s cocky, charming, and sexy as sin. But the fact that she’s attracted to him is all the proof she needs that he’s bad news. She would ignore him if she could. But he’s the best man, and she’s the maid of honor. She can’t just tell him to jump in a lake—especially not when her lips are locked with his.

Eric isn’t looking for a relationship. Between running the firehouse and volunteering for the county’s search and rescue team, he has enough on his plate. He doesn’t need to get tangled up with a woman from the big city, especially one whose idea of roughing it is going without designer coffee. Yet from the moment he looks into Victoria’s big brown eyes, the attraction he feels is too strong to deny. Faster than he can imagine, the spark of desire that has smoldered between them since the first day they met will flare into full-blown passion.

But can Eric convince Victoria to set aside her doubts and trust him with her heart before their time together runs out?

32736449

She wakes up in the back of a van, and her whole world changes.

Injured and afraid—with no recollection of who she is—she stumbles through the Texas Hill Country with a photo labeled Claire. Seeking safety, she knocks at Alex’s cabin door. He protects her, even though she stirs up memories that haunt him.

She wants her life back. He wants to ease his guilt and will protect her even if it means risking his own life. Together they search, hoping questions will be answered by Finding Claire.

13412752
He’ll do anything for you. But you’d better say please.
When tomboy sports reporter Charli Beaumonde loses a dream TV job because she’s not girly enough for primetime, she’s determined to land a big scoop and prove her boss made a mistake. But when she gets too close to a football scandal and finds her life threatened, Charli accepts an offer from family friend Grant Waters to hide out at his place—even if Grant predicts nothing but trouble from his buddy’s hard-headed, uncompromising, irrepressible, younger sister. There’s one more problem…

Grant’s “place” is The Ranch, a BDSM resort in Texas, and he’s used to being in charge —even if that means trying to keep Charli in line. But much to Grant’s surprise, she’s intrigued—even envious—of his trainees. They’re the epitome of what she’s never been: sexy, beguiling, and totally irresistible to a man. Still, Grant doesn’t believe for a minute that the sharp-tongued Charli has it in her to be anyone’s submissive. But Charli’s already on her knees vying for the chance to prove that even the Master can be wrong sometimes.

Alright guys, well there you have it, those are my favorite books from this year! I look forward to 2017 and the many many books I plan to explore. I hope you all have a wonderful New Years! Stay on the lookout for the rest of my wrap-up/New Year’s posts.

Release Blitz | The Art of Sage by Melanie Munton

unnamed (12).jpgThe Art of Sage (Cruz Brothers #2)

By Melanie Munton

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis: With death came new life.

She was my new life.

And I would never be able to let her go.

Social work was never an easy job but somebody had to do it. Fortunately for kind-hearted

and tattooed Sage Tucker, she wanted to do it. Day in and day out she saw kids who

reminded her of her past and she needed to do everything in her power to give them the

help that she never received when she was young. The more kids she helped, the more

layers she thought she could shed of her dark childhood. But nothing ever worked. She was

haunted by her memories, consumed by her anger. She slowly felt herself slipping further

down into a hole, one she didn’t know if she would ever escape from.

Art made sense to Mason Cruz. Keeping his hands busy was his therapy. Being able to do

both at his auto body shop was his sanctuary. Despite everything he had to overcome in his

life, he had finally made something of himself and was where he wanted to be

professionally. With every car he painted and every motorcycle he restored, he could keep

the demons inside his head at bay. He just wished he was as good at repairing his soul as he

was at repairing vintage fenders.

Sage had never felt so exposed than when she was around the smooth and charming

Mason. Talking to him made her feel like she was under a microscope, but maybe that was

exactly what she needed. Nobody had ever wanted to understand her like he did. Nobody

had ever cared enough to ask and she had never cared to share.

And now she knew why.

Because she knew that whenever Mason learned everything about her, heard all of her

darkest secrets, he would never want to look at her again.

EXCERPT

“Plymouth Road Runner. 1970. Not bad.” I followed Sage around to the front of the car,

trying my hardest—appropriate word—to not stare at her ass in that skirt.

She lifted the hood, sighing as she propped it up. “Yeah, she’s a champ. I don’t see any

leaks and everything else looks normal from what I can see. It made a kind of knocking

sound before it died, so I’m thinking it might be an issue with a flywheel. God, if it’s a

camshaft I’m screwed. That’s the original 383 in there, so it’s not as if it’s a brand new

engine.”

I was speechless.

Who the hell was this woman?

She looked over at me when I didn’t respond, choosing instead to stare at the poor

woman like a dumbass. She hadn’t known she was going to pick up a fucking stalker when

she walked into my shop earlier, but damned if I could control my reaction when a woman

who looked like her talked cars to me. She obviously knew what she was talking about and

it was by far one of the most attractive things about her. Purr some more of that sweet stuff

my way, baby.

Not that she wasn’t probably the most incredible-looking woman I’d ever seen in my life

because she definitely was. In fact, I’d nearly had a heart attack the second I laid eyes on

her. Long, luscious hair, the purple color suiting her perfectly. Sharp eyes, seductive smile,

and a banging body. But those tattoos of hers were something else. Attention-grabbing

from a distance, but the closer you got to them, the more mesmerizing they were. The

intricacy to them was a work of art, some of the best I’d ever seen.

Whoever had marked her was a genius. Because not only were the designs beautifully

done but the placement of them on her body was perfection. The way the stems of the

flowers curled around her shoulder, the delicacy of the feathers that looked to almost touch

her neck, the colors blending together in a magnificent moving tapestry. Each one

complemented her in the most tasteful way. I was going to have to find out who her artist

was because they had already ranked pretty high in my book.

“Mason?”

Sage was looking at me with a concerned expression. Yeah, you’re still staring, you idiot. I

turned my attention to the car but couldn’t help my curiosity. “So, you know cars?”

“Not a lot but my dad taught me some stuff, so I know a little more than the basics.

Doesn’t really help me much if I can’t actually fix the problem myself,” she added in a

disgusted voice. I made sure to hide my grin and kept my back facing her.

“But if you and everyone else could fix their issues themselves, people like me would go

out of business.”

She hummed in acknowledgement. “I guess that’s true. You seem pretty good at what you

do if your car is anything to go by.”

Oh, I’m good at a lot of things I do, sweetheart.

Review: Becoming A Legend by Sarah Robinson

27876338

Title: Becoming A Legend

Author: Sarah Robinson

Series: Kavanagh Legends Book 3

Publication Date: December 13, 2016

Goodreads Synopsis:

Kane Kavanagh has always had one goal: being the best mixed martial arts fighter alive. With the MMA National Championships in Las Vegas fast approaching, the man they call “Killer” has no intention of letting anyone or anything get in his way. Somehow, though, a feisty opponent has slipped beneath his guard—and stolen his heart. Fiery and passionate, Nora Hannigan is harder to pin down than any rival Kane has faced in the ring. And she isn’t afraid to tell Kane that she wants nothing to do with him.

With her best friend about to marry into the Kavanagh family, Nora has been resisting Kane’s shameless attempts at flirting for months. But after their undeniable chemistry finally takes over, leading to the hottest night of Nora’s life, she’s running scared. There’s a lot about her life Kane doesn’t know, and she won’t be responsible for ending his career. Now Kane’s out to prove that he’s ready for commitment by winning her heart—and he’s never lost a fight.

thoughts-1

**Book provided by publisher through NetGalley in exchange for and honest review**

Becoming A Legend is the 3rd book in the Kavanagh Legends series…however, this is the first book in this series I have read. I didn’t have any problems just diving right in and I would say for reference this could be read as a standalone. I will probably be checking out the rest of the books in the future though. Kane is a MMA fighter fast approaching the biggest fight of his life, the National Championship. He is set and determined to train hard to finally achieve his goal, and be the first in his family to take the title. Nora has known the Kavanagh family for a while now, seeing as her best friend is marrying into it. Nora has baggage of her own between school and trying to bail her mom out of trouble, so the last thing she has time for is to get involved with a Kavanagh. However, one night the spark between them seems too much to pass up, entering into a no-strings-attached arrangement, both begin to realize that their feelings run too deep. Can they handle their feelings while trying to maintain their life outside of each other?

This is actually the first fighter romance I have read by any author…and I have to say I quite enjoyed it. Robinson created characters in Kane and Nora that were deep and dimensional. Neither of these characters fell flat for me, and I felt like they evolved through the story nicely. I loved the strength that Kane brought to the table, even though he might have been a little arrogant, once he realized how deep his true feelings for Nora went there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. I think that Nora was the perfect counterpart to Kane in that she was fiercely independent and resisted help from anyone. She is also an incredibly strong woman…she not only maintained her life while going to school and working, she also put her life on the line in order to help a mother that was less then supportive. Nora and Kane definitely have a good balance to them, I enjoyed watching them grow and learn as they went on not only in their relationship but in their lives.

Not to mention the chemistry between these two was smokin’ hot, I always love the tension that a love/hate relationship brings to the table. Overall, this book had a lot of winning elements for me and I quite enjoyed the unfolding of all of it. The writing was well done, and this story had a lot going for it outside of just the bedroom scenes. I will be looking for more in this series to come, as well as going back to read the first two!

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Book Review: Womanizer by Katy Evans

29972128

Book: Womanizer

Author: Katy Evans

Series: Manwhore #4

Received: I won an e-book copy of this through Facebook

Goodreads Synopsis:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans comes a brand new contemporary romance. WOMANIZER is a full standalone, and no other books in the series need to be read.

You’ve seen the headlines: Womanizing billionaire player! Watch out! Stay away!

We were just two strangers. Facing a forbidden attraction, a chemical connection. Neither of us expected or wanted it to amount to more.
But I had never been drawn to a guy the way I was drawn to this one: my brother’s best friend, and CEO of the company where I interned.
Even knowing I should stay away, I proved to be too human, after all.
The chemistry was amazing.
The laughs were incredible.
I opened up to him in more ways than I’d opened up to anyone before.
But sex was as far as I’d go.
Just sex because he was too irresistible.
Just sex because I wouldn’t be falling for him.
Just sex because I’d leave in three months, and I’d like for my brother not to kill me, and for nobody to find out he was my wicked little secret.
He wasn’t the One.
He was just a womanizer.
But for a time, he would be mine.

thoughts-1

I’m not sure smoking has ever been so sexy!

Womanizer starts with Olivia leaving her Texas town to try to make it in Chicago. Texas simply just didn’t hold the job opportunities that she expected, so Livvy has her brother, Tahoe, pull some strings to get her a three month internship at his best friend’s company. After her first day at the new company, Livvy finds herself on the roof of the office building taking a hit off of a stranger’s cigarette. She continues to run into her Hot Smoker Guy on the rooftop after work,  what she doesn’t know is that the irresistible man she is spilling her secrets to is none other that the CEO of the company, Callan Carmichael. Callan is not only Tahoe’s best friend and completely off limits to Livvy, but he is also one of the biggest players in the city. However, neither one of them seem to piece the puzzle together as to who they are, until the morning after they fall into bed together. After finding out that her Hot Smoker Guy is actually Callan Carmichael, Livvy decides that all they can have is that one night. However their explosive chemistry makes it hard to stay away.

“I’ve fallen so deeply in love with you I’m drowning here.

I’m fucking drowning here.”

Oh my heart…Callan and Livvy are PERFECT! Their chemistry was simply off the charts! This is the first book by Katy Evans that I have read and the story did not disappoint! I loved that Livvy was such a strong driven woman, who was determined to achieve her goals. She had every intention of taking the opportunity that was given to her and making the most out of it. Even though she got the job because of her brother she was bound and determined to show that she was 100% capable on her own. Callan is the most notorious womanizer in his group of friends and a strong ruthless businessman. I enjoyed Callan’s character immensely, he had just enough bad boy to his sweet tenderness that made my heart swoon. Overall, I really just can’t argue my love for these two and their story. Their chemistry was explosive and provided for some seriously hot and intense scenes in the bedroom, or any other hard surfaces!

The only real problem that I had with this book, and the reason it isn’t getting a 5 star review from me, was the writing style. At some points I felt that the writing was a little jumpy. There were points where there was just a sudden change in subject or the story simply didn’t follow. I found myself going back at points going “wait did I skip a page?”. I hate when I am just going along reading and then all of a sudden I feel like I missed an important scene, but in actuality I didn’t.

Overall, I would still recommend this book because Callan Carmichael might be one of my favorite book boyfriends of this year!

Overall rating: 3.5/5 stars!

Title: Nailed: Erotic Morsles

Author: Staci Hart

Recieved: From publisher and author in exchange for review.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Everyone wants to get nailed.

Sometimes the first thing you feel for someone is lust. Maybe it’s for a stranger. It might be someone you’ve only just noticed, or someone whom you’ve known, but aren’t allowed to want. Maybe you just don’t know if they’re affected by you, if the sound of their voice or the way they touch your hand makes them as crazy as it makes you.

Or, perhaps they want you just as badly as you want them. Sometimes, it’s all you can do to stop yourself from acting on it.

#getnailed with these erotic shorts

thoughts-1

Nailed was incredibly steamy and delicious. This short novella brought us four tantalizing tales of four different couples. This was the first thing that I have read from Hart, and man am I hooked! This book was H-O-T! This book had something for everyone, from hookups with strangers in a bathroom to a couple hooking up in the campus library, there was a good variety in the stories Hart brought us in Nailed.I also enjoyed that one of these shorts was told from the male POV. This was a quick read that completely got my blood pumping and left me wanting more! I definitely recommend picking this one up for a short intoxicating read! I will be checking out more of Staci Hart’s work in the future (I may, or may not be currently reading Tonic by her! HAHA) !

Overall rating: 4/5 Stars

Title: Naughty Boss

Author:Whitney G.

Received: Purchased

Goodreads Summary:

A steamy, office-romance novella from New York Times bestselling author, Whitney G…

He definitely wasn’t supposed to get that email…

Subject: My Boss.

Have I already told you that I hate my boss today?

Sexy as hell or not, this pompous, arrogant, ASSHOLE asked me to pick up his dry cleaning the second I walked through the door. Then he told me that I needed to take his Jaguar to a car wash that was ten miles outside of the city, but only after I needed to stand in a never-ending line to buy some type of limited, hundred-dollar watch.

I honestly can’t wait to see the look on his face two months from now when I tell him that I’m quitting his company and that he can kiss my ass. KISS. MY. ASS.

All those former fantasies about him kissing me with his “mouth of perfection” or bending me over my desk and filling me with his cock are long over. OVER.

Your bestie,
Mya

PS–Please tell me your day is going better than mine…

Subject: Re: My Boss.

No, you haven’t already told me that you hate your “boss” today, but seeing as though you’ve sent me this email directly, I know now

Yes, I did ask you to pick up my dry cleaning the second you arrived to work to day. (Where is it?) And I did tell you to take my Jaguar to the car wash and pick up my thousand-dollar watch. (Thank you for taking five hours to do something that could be accomplished in two.)

You don’t have to wait two months from now to see the look on my face when you tell me you’re quitting. I’m standing outside your office at this very moment. ( Open the door. )

No comment on your “fantasies,” although I highly doubt they’re “long over.”

Your boss,
Michael

PS—Yes. My day is definitely going far better than yours…

thoughts-1

Naughty Boss for me started out great…it was everything I could have hopped for after reading the summary… It was hot and heavy and at some points had me blushing on behalf of Mya. I loved the relationship between Mya and Michael, their love/hate ways were what drew me into this novella. I have a tendency to shy away from novellas and shorts unless I know I will be wholly satisfied with it in the end. This, however, is one of the cases what I just ended the book feeling unsatisfied. I truly felt that this story could have been played out over a whole novel and I would have been much more interested. As I said that first half of this book was great, and it was right on track to being enjoyable, where it fell flat for me was the ending. There just wasn’t enough development for me and I finished the book thinking ” Well alright, that’s it? That was fast!”. Unfortunately, this is one of those shorts that simply fell flat for me.
